Finally, the finding that parenting is more strongly linked to delinquency in school age children and early adolescents, stresses the importance of prevention strategies early in life.
Nevertheless, our findings clearly indicate that psychological control, including keeping the child dependent and the use of guilt to control the child, elevates the risk for delinquent behavior.
Accordingly, four parenting styles can be identified: authoritarian low support, high control , authoritative high support and control , permissive high support and low control , and neglecting low support and control.
